How:
SOME DETAILS ABOUT THE PLANS AND PHILOSOPHY OF RAFIKI KENYA
• Group members traveling to Kenya with the group are responsible for
all of their own travel, food and lodging costs.
• Community capacity building is a guiding philosophy of the project.
Our goal is to spend as much money as possible in the local Kenyan
economy (i.e. by hiring local laborers, purchasing supplies, etc).
• The initial project is expected to be completed within 3 weeks.
• Ways
to volunteer in the project include traveling to Kenya to work
on the project, or being involved in fundraising efforts
in Canada.
• The
first phase of the project will take place in January 2010. Sequential
projects will be determined in the future.
• To
date fundraising activities have included: Dinner events, comedy
nights, benefit concerts, craft shows, and collection
of recycled cans. Please stay tuned for future initiatives. The goal of
Rafiki Kenya fundraising events is to work to meet the educational
needs of children such as those at Murungaru Primary
School. Our group works with various like-minded community organizations,
individuals and volunteers who share a similar vision.
